totally OT, LASIK eye surgery

I'm attending a seminar tonight, and gettin a full exam on Saturday Feb.1, to see if I'm a good candidate for LASIK eye surgery.

Anybody here had this done?

Reccommendations?

Good experinces or bad, I'd like to hear.

I'm sick of glasses, hated contacts, would really like to do this. I only know 2 people that have had it that I could ask questions too, and they both are happy with it.

My Dad had it done with complete success. He still needs reading glasses, but he has worn glasses since childhood and is as happy as can be.

My dad had this surgery aswell. He still wears glasses for reading purposes but does not wear them for anything else. I had a friend (in his late 20's) also get this and he is very happy as far as I know. I know one side effect is star bursts on car lights and lights in general at night.

I do have another friend who had this done who know experences this mild side effect.

My Dad does not have this side effect. He had it two years ago and has een fine. he is in his early 50s. I think one big key is making sure you have an experienced, qualified doctor. I know my parents did a lot of research and found a man who travels the country doing seminars on the surgury. He only had office dates twice a week (the others he was traveling or had two days in Canada for his other office). This is important for your life so do your research.

I have been doing my research, for sure!

If I'm a good candidate, I'm going with a very well respected group of Dr.s in my area. Not the cheapy, fly-by-night guys I've heard about! Yes, it will cost me more $$, but these are my eyes, nothing to mess around with.

Keep the stories/experiences coming in folks, very good to hear so far. (except the reading glasses thing, but maybe I'm looking for something that is not possible).

Laser Eye Treatment is something I'd consider as I have to wear glasses for watching the telly or driving etc. I'd be too scared though I think, I mean if something went wrong (which I'm sure it never would) , it couldn't be turned around and that would personally scare me as you only have one site !!

Just my HO.

A co-worker of mine had it done, and just took his wife to have it done as well. Needless to say he is very happy!! He has only complained about needing reading glasses for things that are very close up, not really complained...mentioned. He has told me he would recommend it for anyone!

Well, I'm scheduled for the surgery in 2 weeks. I know from the exam, I will still need reading glasses, but otherwise I'm a prime candidate. Kinda scary, but I've been wearing glassses full time since 12 yrs old, if I can get rid of them for 2/3rds of my time, it'll be worth it.

Wish me luck!

I've been thinking about it. I can't afford it right now, but I'd love to be able to go to the beach and actually see while I was in the water
