From one who WAS over there for a while, Thank You.

Believe it or not it actually does mean alot to have people let you know they appreciate what we do over there. More often than not, people SAY they appreciate it, but you can see in their eyes they couldn't care less.

I spent four and a half months in Qatar (day before Thanksgiving to Good Friday)..and believe me....that WAS a good Friday. Being there for Saddam's capture made alot of us especially happy having spent a total of 14 months there of my 12 1/2 years of service.

There's alot of folks who've done more time...some who've done less. In a small little dark corner of my heart I hope I go back some time...not soon however. I'm just finally getting my little girl (4yrs old now) to believe me when I say I'll be home after work. Several times when I called, she said she did NOT want to talk to me on the phone...she wants to talk to me in her HOUSE.

Since 911, I have seen my spouse a total of 14 months. He is gone on 10 month leg right now. I got out of the guard last year because he is out of pocket soo much on this unit. All our friends are out in the fray from his previous unit and mine. He has 13 years and I have 15. He went Guard in 02. And I see him less than in the army!

No one seems to care here local about that..they are too busy talking about the unit with that atrocity in the capture holds. They spit on vehicles with post stickers and block the road. A teacher said a very callous remark about how evil this one child's dad was for being an Army member and hopefully he'd get what was coming to him being in Iraq where he had no business. A 4th grade class in Lakewood WA [acronym:fb5ad8cc22="By the way"]BTW[/acronym:fb5ad8cc22]
When my guy returns we will be 8K+ in debt...first credit card debt ever in 15 yrs marriage. Sure we will be reimbursed at some point for the original expenditures and pay adjustments... but the interest will still be there and the damage to our good credit. He could have refused on the account as his full time pay was not enough to adjust for his job here at home. But he did his duty.
My kids are without him... I am alone with no family within 1200 miles but these local yahoos are too busy banging political drums to think of the human side of it in a fair way for both sides....
