Tsunami Relief, How 1 Can Help

Yesterday I left work wondering what I could do to help the millions of people now suffering in Asia. I went to a local pub at happy hour determined to talk to as many people as I could and ask for any contributions. An hour and a half later I left with $380 which will be donated today.

I discovered that most people here want to help but really don't know how. I had total strangers thank me as they handed me their money. Even the kitchen and wait staff responded with a donation when they found out what I was collecting for.

Well, this is how one person can make a difference. I hope you reading this will do similar things at places you frequent or where you work. It's heart warming to see the outpouring of generosity.

Brian

Way to go, Brian! I am impressed that people would hand over cash like that, but I agree so many people want to help but don't know how.

Our local TV news puts up an address during their broadcast where to send disaster relief, and I am totally on it - these people are going to need help for years, literally, so we really need to keep them in our thoughts and prayers, and do whatever we can.

Thats amazing. I think I would be concerned about just handing cash over to someone. On the news this morning they where mentiniong the private donations over the last few days that have come into orginizations like the internaional red cross, doctors with out borders and many others.

It's my watering hole so most there know me and trust my character. Others that didn't know me got caught up in the spirit of giving and the realization that it was easier for them if I make the donation on their behalf. Besides, most people at a place like this view $5 or $10 as pocket change and won't miss it anyway.

In a way it helps to ease their conscience as most people truly want to do something to help.

Wow, good one Brian!
I gave some of the cash (10 Euros) i got from Christmas to my mom who's going to give it to Red Cross. Didn't want to go through the cold to go to the bank....and i don't have e-banking, my mom does, so i told her to do it for me :P

That's awesome. if you want a great condensed list of some organizations, the Apple.Com homepage has them. Their home page is just for the relief effort.
