Ok...(but I won't make it easy)

"I was born in 1909 in New York City. My father was away most of the time making "moving" pictures. I guess I was impressed with this because I took this acting thing seriously as well.

By the time I made my debut, the "moving" pictures now had sound and was becoming very popular. Most of the movies I made were based on smary, derring-do and heroic roles. I really didn't want to play the same roles as my famous father, but I played the parts of pirates, soldier and even a legendary English swordsman.

I had a reptation as being sort of a womanizer and boozer. I was married to a very famous actress. I was issued knighthood by the Queen of England."

Who am I?

I was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. My birth year was 1959. I was a very athletic youth. Unfortunately I was diagnosed with osteogenic sarcoma and forced to have my right leg amputated 15 centimeters (six inches) above the knee in 1977.
In order to raise money for cancer research I started the Marathon of Hope from St. John’s, Newfoundland on April 12, 1980. However, on September 1st, after 143 days and 5,373 kilometers (3,339 miles), I was forced to stop running outside of Thunder Bay, Ontario because cancer had appeared in my lungs. I died on June 28, 1981 at age 22, but my legacy lives on. Who am I?

(this may be too easy, especially for the Canadians on AA)
