Why are they called breeder tanks?

Like the 40 gallon tanks ? Why are they called breeder tanks ?

They are usually used for breeding fish because of the large footprint of the tank.

I figured that but why is it the 40 gallon lol not like the 55

I almost bought a new top fin one with hood and light for 80$ on sale today but didnt wahhhh

fish need more space on the bottom to breed and the 55 doesnt have that. people also like these for planted tanks and reef tanks because you can put more plants/coral than a 55

really? what are the typical size of a 40gal? i never noticed that there's more footprint for a 40 than a 55gal

the footprint of a 55 is 48x12 which is 576 square inches and a 40 breeder is 36x18 which is 648 square inches
