Hello everyone,

I started this tank 6 weeks ago and set it up with no plan. In fact, this tank was mine from high school/college days, and is about 20 years old! About 2-3 weeks ago I decided to go planted and wanted to replace the gravel substrate with Eco-Complete. I stalked this forum and found some lighting ideas(Thanks molly100a! You were a great help not just with the lights!) I went the inexpensive(cheap) route and got 2 Walmart specials for around $6 a piece and bought 13w 6500K CFLs. I then planned my conversion to Eco-complete. It took about 6 hours from start to finish, and it was exhausting! But I did it and the fish looks good and I think its a good start to my first planted!

I put a lot of plants in there may have over done it. Have Ludwigia, Wisteria, Rotala, Moneywort, Anubuis Nana, Cardinal Plant, 1 sword, Dwarf Sag. I hope I didn't over do it!

Below are the before and after, let me know what you think! Thanks for looking!!

2 week update

Hey all, here is the tank after two weeks! I added DIY co2 to my HOBs intake and it seems to be working! I also added 1 rock and rearranged the dwarf sag. I have seen 5 runners so far 3 from one plant, they should be filling in soon! They are growing taller than I expected is it bad to "mow the lawn" eventually? Let me know what you think. Thanks for looking!!

4 weeks....getting thick!

Hey all, my tank has been planted for 4 weeks and its almost trim time! I cant believe the growth! I changed it up a bit after the fish auction last week! I swapped out the platties with a small group of endlers and removed my "dwarf sag" for some downoi. Also put water lettuce up top to give the little guys some shade.

Oh and I went rimless last water change, wasn't the smartest thing I've done but I was very careful and I it looks great!

First pic is to show progress.

Let me know what you think!

I used a small putty knife to break the seal then used a window scraper to get the remaining seal off. I just did it to another 10g, much easier and safer when they are empty! Good luck!

And they remain structurally sound? I have a topfin brand tank and I'm skeptical about it holding

No promises haha, I read somewhere to not go over a 20 long and you should be good and definately do not do it if there is a brace bar like 55's have. Try at your own risk, but now is a great time as the $1/gallon sale is going on!!!

Any Hagen/Marina/Tretra tank at 10g will be fine without the rim.
