I have a 50 gallon tank currently with 3 small anubias and a huge mossy plant from my local lake. I would love to have a planted tank, but I have little to no experience. My current substrate is a mix of white sand and gravel. What substrate should I switch to and how? My lighting is 2 Aqeon T8 15 watt lights.

Eco Complete is a good planted substrate to consider.

Wow... Big mossy plant from the lake? Are you sure it's not a big ball of algae? I'd be cautious about adding plants, moss, or anything living found in nature to an enclosed system such as your aquarium.. You might inadvertently introduce something nasty to your tank.

I'd love to see a picture of what you found at the lake... Got me curious :)

Well, ive had it for 3 months in my 25 now a month in here, so I think its ok. My uncle lives on a lake and has swarms of this in his 2 90 gallons. Heres a pic.
