I tested 1/2 gal of my tap water last night:
kh 1dkh
pH 7.2
po4 0.5

I added a pinch of baking soda and tested after letting it sit out overnight:
kh 6dkh
pH over 7.6

Thx,

Dave

Updated 10/2:
I took the CC out of my filter.
pH 7.2
kh 6dkh
no dosing today and I'll test kh tomorrow.

Updated 10/3/05

kh is now 7dkh
pH 7.1

Hopefully removing the CC from the fliter is what I needed to do.

Thx,

Dave

Manufactured in 4/04 means expired in 4/05, and it may not mean anything but I'd replace the kit.

I raise the KH in my tanks with CC, so I am confused. :?

This is after 12 hours of light, 2.9 wpg.
kh 6dkh
pH 7.2
co2 9.8 ppm

I went back and looked thru all my notes.. my no3 uptake is 5ppm every 4-5 days.

I just can't get that pH/kh balance to hit my "good" co2 target.

Your GH will be good to know, but I don't know if it will help us with the current quandary.

When you removed the CC from your filter, was it really gunked up with debris? Did you have it in a bag or was it loose? How long had it been in there? I don't know if you have snails, but was it full of baby snails by any chance? Where were you on the night of April 16th?

gh 6dGH
kh 8 dKH w/new kit that expired 5/05
kh 6 dKH w/old kit that expired 5/05
fE 0

The CC was in a bag and was not gunked up.
Added 1 basket of CC 8/28
Added 2nd basket of CC 9/11
Very, very few small snails in filter. I break my filters down once a month and clean them real good.

10/7/05
pH 7.0 - 7.1
kh 6dkh
gh 6dgh
no3 10 -20 ppm

So far my kh is holding at 6, but I think needs to be higher. If I have to dose baking soda every week, is there anything wrong with that?

Dave

Update 10/7/05
40% pwc
tested 1 hour later
ph 7.3 - 7.4
gh 4 dgh
kh 4 dkh
no3 10 ppm
Added 1 tsp baking soda
Added 8 ml Flourish Iron
Added 45 ml Excel

I dose baking soda every week with my ARLC tank's water change and have had no problems at all, and I dose a lot - 2-3 tablespoons per water change. If you don't mind doing it I don't think it should be a problem :)
