I use Excel nightly except before a morning water change. Flourish 2x a week, and Flourish tabs in the gravel. About 10 - 12 hours of light from 4 5000k CFL bulbs (thinking about switching to two 6500K). My Amazons seem to have reached a capped size. The ones on the left of the pic are full but haven't grown taller in months. They are about half the size of the one on the right which is getting wider, but no longer taller. Am I missing something that could help them blossom more or should I just stop worrying about it? I think I read Amazons grow wide with more light and narrow with less light but I can't find where I read that.

In my experience, certain plants grow different with pressurized co2. My swords did the same thing they'd get super bushy but never passed 6". My crypts would also grow differently, the stems, I guess u could call them, would grow very long and the leaves would be shorter. Once I got co2 into the tank the leaves got huge with both plants and always reach the top.

I'm not sayings it's definitely co2, just sharing an observation I made from my hightech and low tech tank.

Also another thing there are compact/ dwarf sizes of swords that stay about 12" and under so that could be another thing.

so they may be thinning on the edges as well because of lacking carbon?
At first they were thinning because of my Albino Pleco, but I moved him to my goldfish tank.
I dose the minimum of Excel. I should probably dose a lil more while I research a CO2 pump.

Are they thinning on new or old leaves

It's the outer most leaves so I assume the oldest?

so actually I looked at it again and it's not anywhere in particular, some in the middle, but mostly the edges and outermost that seem to be losing their green.

Just a follow up: I added an extra 3 root tabs and they all started blowing up and filing in. I never imagined I would ever have a planted tank. Now I have this. Nuts! Much less fish other than goldfish. I didn't even know what an angelfish was a year ago!
