aponogeton flower

so i bought those walmart plant bulbs and they did not sprout so i sent them back they sent all kind of differant bulbs and a aponogeton (i dont know what kind) has a realy long stalk that comes out of the water and has a little white ball on the top so my question is should i trim it off? cause i heard it will die off if i dont.

Does the plant look like this? And does the flower stalk look like this?

And some people do because that's the main focus of the plant to get the flower to bloom so more nutrients go to it, I cut it off because it just gets to the hood of my tank and dies and when I I cut it off more leaves sprout

Yeah it looks like that stalk and the plant I think I'll trim it off so it will grow more but how should I trim it off?

Just make a clean cut as near as the bottom of the plant as possible

Try keeping track of it's growth like take a pic once a week the way these guys grow is pretty awesome too see 
