Aquarium Advice Apprentice
Hi All,
I was around in May asking questions about the aquarium backing, to cover all the wires that run down the back. I got lots of good advice, thanks so I wanted to show what I learned in the hopes of helping someone else out.
I had decided on that opaque privacy film, you know the kind you'd put on a bathroom window so no one can see in or out, but light gets through? Well when I went to a local store called Industrial paints and plastics they would have had to special order for my 135 gallon, so they suggested I use acylic paint on the back instead, and insisted there were no fumes that would hurt the fish. So I got a small jar of sky blue paint for a fraction of the cost of the film, I think $10-12.
Well it worked!! Dried in 5 min, sets permanently after 7 days he said!
The one issue I had was a splashy dwarf gourami who kept getting water back there, where it was sitting between the tank and the back of the new stand, resulting in some paint peeling that looked horrible! Also I sprayed it on with a special spray can with aerosol and it went everywhere so I would not recommend that!

After repainting the entire back with a sponge brush

So I am really happy with it and it has the added bonus of reflecting onto the surface when you look up from below, which makes it look bigger I think...

It worked with my 50 gallon
And it worked on my 135 gallon!

I wish I had learned this years ago, I've always found it hard to hide the cords and my walls are olive so they made the tank look like it had algae... Not any more, now they remind me of a summer sky ahhhh lol.
