Black Out of 10 Gallon Tank - It Worked!
I waited it out, as hard as it was, actually I waited a day longer for a total of 4 days but when I did pull the towels off the tank, half the water was gone but so was the Cyanobacteria, no sign of it at all! Please, anyone doing a tank black out, do not cover your tank with towels!
Only a couple of my plants where in tough shape so I pulled those and cut some of the other's down. I vacumed and cleaned, added some KNO3 and now the tank looks great! Thank you all for the support, it's so very much appreciated. I'm really hoping that this 10 gallon tank will do a lot better than my larger (29 gallon) has been doing. I feel so much more confident with this tank, maybe it's becuase it's a lot easier for me to work with.

Excellent. Teh blackout is always better to try first, before resulting to antibiotics (Maracyn).

Excellent news! The tank should stay clear now that the algea is dead. It's been two weeks since my blackout and all is well with my tank.

Hi Linda, that red plant is Ludwigia glandulosa "perennis". It turned that beautiful wine red in 4 WPG. I stupidly upped my lighting to 6WPG, successfully killing it and most of my other red plants off in about 2 weeks. Massive nutrient imbalance, didn't catch it in time. Once it started to slide I couldn't save it. I have since re-planted it and am getting the tank back on track, thanks to my own blackout and running 4WPG again. Live and learn!
