I moved a red melon from another tank where it was planted.
It's in my 90 gal now floating til I decide where to put it and the danios and hatchets love it.

Will it doing oK floating or does it really need planting. ?

Thx,

dave

Unlike java ferns, moss, etc. that draw their nutrients from the water, the sword draws nutrients via the roots and therefore needs to be planted.

Nice sword by the way. (y)

It'll float for a week or two without much decline and if you can't decide by then send it to me and I'll give it a good home.

Yes it can float for a few days, maybe a week before you start to see problems.

red melons are tank busters. mine got too large for a 75gallon!

I went ahead and planted it last nite Malkore.
I gave it a 2 min. 19:1 bleach dip, ( small traces of BBA)
not sure it's gonna make it now.

Thx,

dave
