Sorry to ask this but my dad doesnt like me spending all my money on liquid ferts so hes making me ask. Can you use potassium supplements for human consumption instead of something like seachem or other brands? I know finding the correct dossage may be difficult but he doesnt really care -_-. Thanks for the help

A cheaper option for dosing potassium is to buy it in powder form by the kg or pound. U can do this for all your fertilisers.

K2so4,kh2po4,kno3,magnesium,calcium etc etc.

Here's a guide to making fert solutions and how to dose them.

Here's a website u can buy the required powders from:

U can also work out your dosage for each fert using this calculator:

I'd go for buying dry ferts as well. Last for years and much cheaper. (I don't think I've seen potassium supplements ever used but would think the dry ferts buy would be even cheaper). Good question!

What do you mean?

It looks like the pills are potassium citrate and I have potassium sulphate dry ferts. Needs a check but I assume the pills are ok for aquarium use - anyone?

A kilogram of dry ferts is only a few bucks here. The postage is main cost. That's enough for months, if not years on smaller tanks.

Out of curiosity I wondered if the K pills could be used and then, while dry ferts are very cheap. If someone is getting these pills already as part of grocery (and can be used for free), this would be even cheaper.

True, here are the ingredients of my pills you wanted to know: potassium gluconate, stearic acid, and magnesium stearate.

These looked ok to use on reading. Low potassium amount but for low light tanks (inserted deep into substrate just in case) I think ok. Hardest bit might be working out a dosing schedule.

yeah, ok I was thinkin the same thing. Id have to do a lot of research on pottasium dosing and how strong these pills are in comparison to other liquid ferts ;-;. Thanks for letting me know though.
