2.5 gallon tank, 13 watt CFL on for only 6hrs, no ferts or tabs yet, no co2, 1 betta and nerite snails and ghost shrimp. Running for quite a while, recently redone. Next to window but i try to close the blinds...

Why the algae? Green and nasty.

Too much light and no CO2.

Try a 10 watt or less CFL. Or raise the light higher if you can.

Or add DIY CO2 or Excel.
Frequent PWCs and don't overfeed.

Could you basically sum up diy Co2 for me? I would like to try that or excel

No sorry. There is a sticky on the first page of the planted section or Google is your friend. I don't use it.
