I was noticing that my light on my planted 5g betta tank was looking dim, so I replaced it with a 13 watt mini spiral compact flourescent bulb. The tank is the walmart 5g hood combo that came with the typical incandescent 15 watt bulb. My concern is that the new bulb will melt the clear plastic that is part of the housing. The new bulb is fatter than the old one and almost touches the plastic. Anyone with experience in this?
Oh yeah, I can't believe the difference! I could probably get some medium to high light plants now.
