Co2 and lighting

Hi. Every one just looking for a bit of advice. Iv got a 4ft bow fronted rena aquarium which holds about 200l. I want a nice planted tank with the "lawn" look. What I'm wondering is my tank uses two 3ft t8 bulbs and iv got a chance to have a proflora co2 kit would this be suitable for carpeting plants. Most places iv looked at said these plants need strong lighting. And is it worth having co2 as iv read that you only need co2 if you've got strong lighting so the plants grow quicker therefor they need more co2

Welcome to AA!

I don't think you'll be able to carpet the tank using that light, regardless of CO2 injection. The Proflora kit looks decent, but I think the bottle is a bit small. You can always get the CO2 kit and upgrade lighting later. If you're the DIY type, you can retrofit your stock hood with high-power LEDs. I've got a thick carpet of glossostigma growing under 30W of LEDs in a 20H.

Thanks big jim I thought that will be the case. I dont think I will get the co2 unit than and just stick to low light plant. I dint think I'd be able to fit LEDs to my hood without making look like an eye sore as my tank is the main feature in my front room. Thanks for the tip thou

There is a few options that you can try.

It really helps to upgrade the lights, though, but I've managed a few plants like Dwarf sag under t8's.

Thanks jets I shall have a look at those. Iv also found a plant called staurogyne sp that's meant to be not that hard to look after. Any one had any experience with it as it does look mighty good as a low foreground plant.
