I want to make my own co2 system for my planted tank. I have researched alot of addatives and with my lighting and tank sizes no addatives seem to be sutable. I do not want to spend 200 plus on a system made for aquariums. Could i just go to a valve and gauges at a hardware store and co2 tank at dicks? will I need adapters? And is a bubble counter needed?

Regulator will be like $50? Solenoid, bubble counter, needle vale will easily be $50-70. You'll still need a tank ($50 easily for a 5# + gas) and a regulator ($10-40). You're really not going to save much assembling a system from scratch.

$150 can usually set you up with a decent system.
