discolored plants

I'm fairly new to the live plants, but a few weeks back I put in a bunch of crypt spiralis, a Java fern and a few other, I heard you're supposed to tie the Java fern to decor or driftwood, so i did.

Its been a couple weeks and the fern looks like its dying lol it has a brownish hue on certain leaves. Is this bad?

No CO2, I have a t5 odyssea(bare with me, I'm new to plants lol) I think they are 10K daylight, possibly 80w bulbs if that sounds right? I'm not sure I'd have to look again
