Dosing Pottasium Sulphate

My tank is moderately/high planted but also is heavily stocked so dont want my nitrate too high.
Im currently only adding 5ppm x3 a week and I assumed my fish added the rest of the nitrate. I have now doubled my nitrate dosage as my echinodorus tenellus is showing signs of deficiency ( transparent leaves dieing ) and this is the only macro/micro I would consider myself under dosing.
If the goal of EI is to provide excess amounts and the target range is about 20ppm nitrate then it makes sense to add at least that per dose and not just add 5ppm.
