Drift wood which has been burned

Any experiences of driftwood which was burned? Unknown how it was burned. Looks like the back is burned on the outside, front is not.

Would this be a problem with water pH balance or anything else you know of?
 
Do you mean mopani wood? Look it up if you don't mind and see if that's what you're talking about. If it is, I love it. It's an african tree root that grows like that. It's very hard and last a very long time, it doesn't rot like other driftwood will.
 
Here are some more photos I still don't think its been burned I don't see any charring. The backs just not as faded.

This is the name of shrub it came from. Greenleaf Manzanita. Their has not been a fire in the part of utah retrieved in 30 plus years. and no camp fire as it was attached to a bush.
