Dry start

There are a lot of posts on it, but you basically rinse the sand out for a few minutes before adding it to the tank. I put it in a 5g bucket and stick a water hose in there and run it/stir it till it comes clear.
 
And most plants will grow just fine in that
 
So I need the mesh everywhere I plan to grow moss, what about other plants like micro swords or dwarf hair grass?
 
What's a good sand? Heard about pool filter sand don't know much about it though

Any sand works. A lot of people like Tahitian moon sand as a cap over black sand. Very pretty.
 
Ok, I'm just worried with sand I won't be able to get the carpet I want
