Greeting all!

I have read the various opinions about how much to rinse fluorite red before using it. Is there a general consensus that thoroughly washing fluorite will not make it just an expensive bag of regular gravel? Will it retain any of the stuff that makes it beneficial for plant growth?

See my FAQ. I have included a method of washing Flourite that works well for me. You can't wash the nutrients out of Flourite. But you want to keep as many of the fine particles as you can while getting rid of the dust.

FWIW, I use a wire mesh strainer that holds about 2lbs of gravel at a time, and rinse it in the bathtub with a shower hose.

I'm betting you are not married either.

I like the paint strainer because it keeps all the fine stuff and dumps the dust.
