Question Good number of plants for 10 g tank?

In setting up my new tank the guy at the local PetSmart gave me two plants to put in my tank. It looks lonely in there! How many is too many to have in a 10 gallon tank. Right now I am cycling my tank. I posted some pictures in the getting started forum. To me, the tank just looks sparse. Also, I don't remember what the plants were he sold me....can anyone take a look and tell me. If I do put other plants in what will be good ones to have. I will have my betta in there, a black snail, and possibly some panda or peppered cories......
Thanks in advance!

When A) they don't fit any more. or B) They obscure your view of something else you want to see.

Live plants are a great asset to your tank. They absorb all the nasty nitrogen compounds, they create oxygen, and they provide a nice environment for all your critters. A few critters may eat them or uproot them, in which case you may not be able to keep very many types of plants.

I actually have 2 tanks that are mostly plants with no fish. The third tank is 75 gallons, with just 2 little catfish in it. None of these tanks use the recomended filtration, because I have so many plants that they do the majority of my filtration for me. I just have a little foam filter that takes any dusty bits out of the water, and I leave the biological filtration up to the plants. The only downside is that you can't leave the lights off for more than a day, or you'll go through a nitrogen cycle. I keep the lights on a timer, and all is well.

Agreed! Pack 'em in there! just be wary of the types of plants you get, as some require much higher lighting than the standard lights you get at the LFS. Stick to low light plants, and possibly look in to dosing Flourish Excel, and you'll be set!

Also be careful getting plants from petsmart. Petsmart tends to sell plants that are not true aquatic plants.

As long as you know what you're getting, yeah - pack 'em in there if you like the look.
