I'm setting up an indoor aquaponic system and I have everything except the grow light. I have it next to a south facing window, so the plants will get natural sunlight, but I will need to supplement with lighting, especially during winter. I don't plant on growing any fruiting plants, just green and leafy.

What kind of light would you guys recommend?

I'd say go to Home Depot and they have a 48" quad t8 shop light, hang it up and plug it in!$50 I believe.. Think it's 120 watts..

That would work if it were 36" do they come in a smaller size?

Yah they have a 24", it's actually called a grow light, you could always get some clamp on's with a 6500k cfl or led bulb..

Would these bulbs work? The 48"shop light is 10 bucks at Wal-Mart, but it only takes 2 T8 bulbs.

If you have 2 bulbs of say 1000 lumens, do you have 2000 lumens? Or just a really bold 1000 lumens?

I'm not sure, I don't think lumens are all that important, you're after par value and k rating..

Ah, I see now, those are 3000K, and a full spectrum would be closer to 5500-7500K.

So I'd probably do alright with these then?
