I added some duckweed to my aquarium but have a few questions.

1. Will duckweed stop light from getting to my plants thus killing them? They need moderate light.

2. Will duckweed name my impaler in my filter when the filter sucks up the duckweed? It sucks up a few, and I don't wanna come home to a fire/ broken filter.

I do plan on getting a sponge to go on the end of the filter to stop the duckweed from getting inside.

1. It'll definitely shade the tank, so you'll have to scoop it out periodically as it overtakes the surface. I wouldn't say it would outright kill the plants, but they'll definitely be getting less light.

2. It can clog up a filter pretty easily. However most of my filters don't suck it up because it stays near the top except where the filter output pushes it down.

Thanks! I noticed the filter only sucks up duckweed being pushed down by the current from the filter.

I will be sure to clean out the duckweed every so often.
