So, I've been quite neglectful of my tanks for the last few weeks...and while the large tank hasn't seemed to notice...I now have an algae issue in the smaller tanks.

I know what to do for the green spot algae (start up the phos again) but what about hair algae? (Short of the obvious--remove it--which I've done with the large chunks at least). For the record...this is a shrimp only tank that I'm cautious about fertilizing anyway.

Thanks.

In a NutShell: Remove as much as possible manually, do a large water change, then dose to needed levels.

I had luck with reducing the time the lights were on in my tank. I could do this without problems because its a fish only. I'm assuming since you mentioned ferts that you have a planted tank.

Lots of PWC's and adjusting lights to 4-6 hours a day for a week got rid of ALL my hair algae. Also, scrubbing decor seemed to help reduce the spread.
