Hair algae

whats the best way to solve a hair algae problem? Besides introducing something that will eat it, what must be done to the water parameters to eliminate it.

Hair algae is one of the tough ones. I've found that oxygenating the water more can help, but this is counter productive if you're injecting CO2. Water circulation can help too.

On the other hand, it went away in my stagnant 2.5 gallon tank when I left the lights on for a few days. If that isn't illogical.... (The 2.5 gallon tank was already undergoing a fertiliation plan based on EI, which may have been actually responsible for the decline of the hair algae. I had also done alot of manual removal.)

Thanks for the reply dsk. I use a rena micro bubbler and don't inject co2. I add flourish tablets in the gravel once every 4 - 6 weeks. Can this be caused by excessive iron and/or nutrients?

Sure can. Need to balance those nutrients. Have you studied the Estimative Index method of dosing? Much cheaper than flourish tablets in the long run, and easier to balance too.

Technical Explination of EI
Less Technical Explination of EI
