Well I honestly can't tell you much about what happens chemically.
It's called "Calcium Montmorillonite Clay". I originally got it as a plant fertilizer to avoid adding chloride to my tank with my calcium dosing and it ended up being some kind of fish tank "miracle substance". Rivercats first told me about it.

It looks really good! I agree it seems so natural. Some AR would look nice. If you cant carpet that HC or DHG maybe try staurogyne repens?

No it seems to be working, the hc didn't work so good wet start so hair grass had to be done.
