HOB only run at night.

Hi.

I have two filters on my Aquarium, an external hob and an internal one.

The internal one is on for 24 hours a day but I only run the HOB for 12 hours at night to help gas off excess CO2 and to stop surface agitation during the day when im injecting CO2

Is this ok???

As when the filters goes off the water drains out off it leavin an empty filter area with all the filter media not in water.

Will this kill the bacteria if they are not in water 24 hours a day?

Any information would be fantastic.

the bacteria dies out with out a food source. i would leave it on all day and just keep the water line high. there are things you can do to cut back on the surface agitation so you dont lose too much co2 during the day and still get it aired out a little at night.

keep the water level as high as possible. you can also build a little diffuser using a 1 liter coke bottle. put it under the out put of the filter and it stops splashing. just have to cut some holes though it.
