Hydroponic algae to be beneficial algae?

In the hydroponic world of gardening they are as passionate about beneficial algae as we are... So, are their products able to accomplish goodness in our tanks?

That's not so much an algae rather than a fungus.

I doubt it would have any effect on plant growth and in fact I would be surprised if it would be able to survive in an aquarium.

This is probably one of those things that will happen in a planted tank as the tank matures regardless of what you add to it, especially if you're using a dirt-based substrate like aquasoil, capped soil, etc. This would probably just speed up the process.
