I don't know how to care for a plant called, a myriophyllum hippuroides.

Western milfoil? Its pretty much a weed ( ) that is nearly impossible to kill.....really easy care...lots of light, a little bit of comprehensive fert (like Seachem's Flourish)...and CO2 (if you want it to grow like crazy).

Mine dies pretty quickly and is turning brown. How many hours of light does it need?

Intensity of light is probably your problem.. 2watts per gallon+ Im guessing would be needed..

Yes....a good 12-14 hours daily, and 2½ watts per gallon at least.
