Interesting article on Algae Control in Planted Tanks

I am still fairly new to the hobby and I am trying to figure out the best way to deal with the hair algae in my planted tank and I found an interesting case study.

Was too long for my attention span, but ghost shrimp will go to town on hair algae IME.

That's the PMDD study which has pretty much been blown out of the water. The basic theory of the study is that if you limit phosphates then you will limit algae. But I find that phosphate limited tanks grow lots of algae.

Is there any validity to what they say in the study? I am mostly trying to get ride of hair algae. That's pretty much the most predominant form of algae in my tank right now.

But who's to say, if I dose the tank to their reccomendations, something else won't flourish.

I guess the basic question is "How do I establish an equilibrium so the plants out compete the algae?"
