is bamboo safe

I have bamboo in my cichlid tank. Ive hade the one in there for about 6 months with no problems we added two more plants one is quite big and now we r having fish dying. The big plant has some fuzzy stuff growing on the top leaves.

Ammonia at 0
Nitrite at 0
Nitrate at 20-40
Ph at 7.8
Need help dont want to lose more fish

Lucky bamboo? It is fish safe but is a terrestrial plant. The leaves need to be out if the water for it to survive and grow.

Its the bamboo u get in those lil chinese shops. Im just worried about them putting off some chemical thats killin my fish

It's safe unless it's been sprayed with bug killers. Have you changed anything in the tank? What are the symptoms before the fish dies?

I redid my whole tank a few weeks ago. I just remeasured nitrates after a 30% water change and it is off the charts i dont know what to do

Sounds like that could be your problem. What are you using to test?
Have you tested your tap water?
Lots of large water changes over the next days/weeks to bring it down. Stirring up/rearranging tanks can kick up a lot of waste causing spikes.
