So yesterday I bought a couple new plants for my tank. When I was putting them in my tank I noticed a small piece of java moss was stuck to my new amazon sword. A very small piece. I'm just wondering how likely it is that this maybe 1-inch long piece of java moss will survive and/or grow into something of decent size.

i just stuck the end of it in the substrate like the rest of my plants. will that work or does it need to be attached to something else in some way?

No need to try to plant it in the substrate, java moss will grow just fine while its floating or you could attach it to something with a piece of cotton string. By the time the string decomposes the moss will have attached itself to whatever its tied to
