Landscaping rocks

Im considering using landscaping stones in my aquascape as opposed to over priced Japanese stones. Can anyone from experience recommend a type of landscaping stone the has a lot of texture? Also what kind of stone should I avoid?

check out lowes they have 5 lb bags of river rock.

Your best bet is to just find a local stone yard and go check out what they have.

You can also try garden centers. Some may even have a "chipped and broken" section where you can find slate, flagstone, and other pieces for cheap.
I also bought the 50# bag of river rock from Lowes. Pieces are generally 2"x3" in a variety of colors. Only used <1% maybe for the aquarium; rest will be used as drainage stones for potted plants (outside).
