Hi Everyone,

I am new to planted tanks and have a quick question. I have a current 48 inch light fixture with two 65 watt 6700/10000 bulbs, is this enough lighting for my 60 gallon tank? The tank measurements are 48L x 15W x 17H. I really appreciate the help.

Thanks so much:)

Lighting is going to be more about what kind of plants you wants, rather than what kind of tank you have. Do you have an idea of the plants yet?

It sounds like you're using a power compact fixture with 50/50 bulbs. The actinic side of the bulb isn't worth much to plants, so figure you've got about 65W of light. You could grow low-light plants, possibly medium-low.

Actually those are the dual daylight bulbs, so you'd actually have closer to medium light.

I've used those dual daylight bulbs in the past with much success. I like the mixture of 6700K and 10000K lighting, personally.
