What are the different lighting types (low, medium low, medium, medium high, high)?

Those are lighting levels, not types. They describe the lighting intensity in the tank, so you if certain plants have a chance at successful growth, or if they'll wither and die.

As a general guideline, 1 watt per gallon and below is low light. 1-2 watts per gallon is med/low to medium. 2-2.5wpg is medium, and 3wpg and above is high.

When you hit 2wpg, CO2 injection becomes necessary.

I agree with malkore deeniOz. Between 1 and 2 wpg would be medium low light. Over 2 wpg and you need CO2.

You could try 1.7wpg with dwarf sage. It might work.
