Lights

I have a 55 gal. Perfecto freshwater tank with fish only. I want to add some plants, but I need different lighting. I have the hood & strip lights that came with the tank ( 2 -15 watt bulbs). Should I get a full hood or a glass canopy with compact flourescent lights? I don't know what would fit with this aquarium, (it has a center brace). This is driving me crazY!!! Thanks.

Hiya crp and welcome to Aquariumadvice

I grabbed a Coralife fixture for my 55g; it sits right over the clear plastic strip in the hood. I only bought one for one side of the tank; I leave the other side with a 15watt bulb so its not too bright for my plec. I think its a 20 or 24 inch fixture.

Thanks, which ones did you get? I'm still wondering if I should get a retrofit or what will actually fit?

I've gone with ahsupply's retro kits for each of my tanks and swear by home made canopies. Home depot rocks!
