Awesome tank, plants, and animals.

I'd love to see your tank with a less purple (is that 9325K?) bulb, not because I find the reds it brings out overwhelming, but rather that all the great colors in there seem to blend a little. For example, I think the contrast of those Crypts by the L. aromatica (?) is a little lost, as well as both by that great moss and foreground. Just two cents. I just think your great gardening should be shown off more :)

I'm pretty sure your stand up plant in the foreground is C. parva. Yours is very very nice.

I thought we cant plant anything with cichlid in the tank? This proved i'm very wrong.
Very beautiful tank and fishes !!

Hi,

I see your point. It could be my camera too, i still dont know how to use it yet.

I'm slowly changing the layout to a more open scape by constantly dividing the Dwarf Soft Rush (Blyxa Japonica) to try and fill out the carpet. But since i'm working in borderline light and the sensitive nature of the plant it does die off a bit every time i do alot of moving it around.

I've also been working on replacing all the java moss with the weeping christmas moss, as frankly it is just better. But it is a slow process.

8th Dec 2008 - Full tank.

I'm trying to work out ways of improving the hardware for the tank. The one thing i'm currently obsessing about is flow rate. I've read in a number of places that a good circulation is very important for a planted tank.

Unfortunatly the Fluval 205 filter supplied with the tank has an appauling flow rate. I've worked out that the fittings for the tank can take a 405 so may work on getting one of those or another external of similar or slightly bigger size, with the same size piping, that i can get an in built heater in.

Beyond that in line CO2 keeps screaming at me.

Next year for this tank i want to have a meadow of Blyxa Japonica with the redmoor wood coming out of it covered in nice moss. Open and simple.

Best Regards,

John

I love the simplicity of your 5.5G and the discipline you show in limiting species on a nano. I'm excited to see what you do with the Blyxa on this tank! I'm sure an even bigger field of it will be dramatic. You're going to run it all the way to the back in sections?

Greetings from Edinburgh,

A long time and alot of changes on this tank. I think there is a limit to how many pictures i can post so pls reply so i can add more.

Thanks for all the comments so far, that is me up to date with photos of the recent changes. The scape is actually finished now with this final version. I've even given it a name.

The Dark Place

Due to the big black hole in the base of the "tree" where monsters lurk.

In the future I think i am going to use the drift wood i have stored in the shed downstairs for a three pillars effect thing. But that will have to wait until I move house. This one is just going to sit and age for a bit, it is practically a zero maintenance scape. Just change the water, clean things up and leave the plants to mature.

Joy,

Best Regards,
John
