I'm going on vacation this summer for two weeks. My parents wont let me keep the lights on in my tanks because its a "fire hazard" The room lights will be on so I'm not worried about the fish, but what about the plants? Will they survive two weeks with no light?

Yes, they will live. they will not Thrive, but they won't die either. while your gone they may get kinda leggy and streched, lose a couple leaves, but not die. when you get back, get 'em back on regular routine they'll be fine.

I will add...as long as they are healthy when you leave them. A plant not doing so hot now won't make it most likely.

I vote for a timer as well. Even if the lights are only on 4 or 5 hours a day.
