Spring has started here in Belgium, so I thought I would already get the aquarium out and get it cleaned!

Last spring/summer I did the same thing with a bunch of minnows, but the were in a barrel.. They were doing fine for four months. Unfortunately I lost most of them in 2 days.. Apparently two garden snails got in the tub and they were decomposing at the bottom. Water parameters went bad really quick haha!

So that's in the past, this year I'm just bringing an old 29 gal outside. Since it's only 16 degrees outside at midday and still quite cold at night, it will be heated. The aquarium is positioned so it will only catch a glimpse of the evening sun. So I should get spared from overheating/algae bloom.

I was thinking if you guys could give me some ideas about the decor.. Thinking about adding a big motherplant of needle leaf javafern XL.. But it would also seem a good idea to dry start with monte carlo or something.. Not sure yet. I have loads of duckweed, so I got the floaters covered! But I do fancy some water lettuce (then again I think my lighting is too weak 2x T8 18W)

Inhabitants will be my offspring endlers as well as a pair of BN albino plecs.

What do you guys think?

Sounds like a nice relaxing evening on the patio with a view. What is the weight rating on those brackets? Tank will probably weigh in a 300lbs when full.

Honestly I have no idea, but I tested it and so far it holds a fully filed up tank.

I can't help you with your plant selection, but I think you have a great idea. Your tank looks cool on your patio wall. Wondering if I can talk my wife into letting me do something similar . . . Probably not.

Haha I always go with the element of surprise! Everytime I got a new tank I made sure she wasn't at home that day ?

Update time:tank has been running for a solid 20 days now, cycled material was added to speed up the process. Ammonia and nitrates are both 0. Fish have been swimming happily for the past week. Really pleased with the result:

Stock is currently 2 juvenile BN plecs, 2 amano shrimp, 6 wcmm, 1 lost corydoras, about 50 newly born endler guppies which I will raise outdoors.. Temperature at night here in belgium is still 4 degrees celsius, but tank keeps running at a stable temp of 22-26 degrees day/night.

Got some christmass moss, java fern' anubias barteri, nana, flamme moss, willow moss (which is not doing well) and some windelov in there.

Looks great! I'd say drop the temp to 20-24 of u can. Moss tends to grow better in cooler water I've found.

So I've noticed too, but I heard BN prefer it nice and hot. All the moss is doing excellent, except the willow moss. It is sort of a cold water moss so they say..
