I've never planted in a aqaurium before ... so looking for tips and help!

I just purchased a 25 gallon aquarium and wanted to set it up to house some live plants ... what are some good beginner plants that would require low maintenance, and lighting..

What do I need to purchase to put on the bottom of my tank? I've been youtubing some videos and everyone puts in some type of soil, and chemicals, and then adds their gravol? Could I put sand in the bottom with plants?

Also, for filters ... can you still use an aquaclear filter in a planted tank? or what would a suggested filter be?

Can I just use regular lighting? or do you have to purchase a special type of bulb?

I'm hoping to keep this at a low cost ... and any help will be great!

Tell us about your tank. Do you have the stock lights? I use sand as the substrate, with osmocote fertilizer(it's for house plants) at the bottom of the sand. You might need to upgrade your lighting.
