I know this May sound stupid but what is a dirted tank?

A dirted tank is one in which a couple inches of soil is placed at the bottom of a tank and topped off (or capped) with another substrate such as gravel, sand, or a plant specific substrate. It cannot be just any soil. I believe Miracle Grow organic potting mix/soil (cannot recall which one) is one of the more popular ones being used. It provides plants with nutrients through their roots.
