I know these are probably very common, but I am just getting into having more live plants than just aponogetons :D So could someone help me out with what they are? I am looking for the plant in the very front (light green) and the plant in the very back which was sold to me as a "sword" plant.

the plant that is in the front of your second picture is the same one i just bought...the one with the big oval leaves... its called echinodorus palaefolius var.latifolius... :D

hmm, the first one looks like hygrophilia to me.

if it is rotala rotundifolia, it looks funny as it should have a pink tinge to it, which gets much deeper under moderate to high light (2wpg+)

I was thinking Rotala indica, but even the green looks washed-out, so I am assuming it has been lacking proper light.

I just can't see it being Hygro....even Hygrophilia corymbosa is significantly different in foliage.

Thanks! It does look like the Rotala to me though there is no hint of pink or red. Hopefully I can keep them alive :D

My first thought on the first one was some form of Hygrophila but I can't say for certain. I haven't kept much Rotala so I'm no expert when it comes to ID'ing. The second is almost certainly Echinodorus (a sword). It looks like an emersed growth form, possibly Ozelot or Amazon sword. I doubt it is a Brazilian sword. What is most often sold as Brazilian sword (Spathiphyllum tasson) is actually not a member of the Echinodorus species at all, nor is it a true aquatic, and will die if kept submerged.

It does look a bit like the hygrophilia in the link but its such a pale green. Hopefully it will grow some and then be easier to identify.

I have that same plant in my aquarium. There was some for sale at last months SVAS auction, and I wrote down the name... but just now I was unable to find that note, and it looks like I did not write it in my notebook.

Howvwer I think it is this: http://www.plantgeek.net/images/plantpics/Bmonerii.jpg

Which is Moneywort
Bacopa monnieri

The leaves in the picture do not appear heavily veined, which is why I dont think it is a Hygrophilia or a rotala.
I used the lucid key to try and identify it, and Bacopa monnieri kept making it to the last 10 choices.
Are the central stems smooth or are they lightly ribbed?

I too was contemplating moneywort...but if it is, I think it's emersed growth...and that's why it just doesn't look right.

might simply need to revisit it in a month after its converted to submersed growth.

Well, again, it does look a bit like the moneywort. The leaves look longer though, and more narrow. I don't know if it will help at all, but I took some macro pics of the leaves and stems and some new leaves popping up.
Also I wanted to say thanks guys for all your help :D

Good on you with the extra photos....you have provided additional clues:

1. Leaves sprout opposite each other in pairs.

2. Leaves show slight serration along edge.

3. Leaves are somewhat, although not severely, teardrop shaped.
