Hello,

I am new to this natural plant thing.

I found this brown stuff on my Java Fern.
I suspect is it this brown algea / diatom people are taking about.

I have a 4" common pleco (soon to be given to a friend)

Can I introduce an ottocinclus in the tank with the pleco.

Do you mean the brown on the roots of your new sprouts? You would be ok having an otto with a pleco. I keep them in several tanks with plecos. GL

New plantlets form at the tips of the leaves or where the leaves are damaged. If you wait a few weeks you will see leaves sprouting where these roots are growing. You will then have new baby java ferns that you can detach and use elsewhere.

Actually I did check.

You are totally rigth. I could see a little green leaf on one of them.

You guys rock.

Thank for you help.

Anyone have an experience growing java fern plantlets emersed? I have alot of new plantlets sprouting up. Unfortunately i don't really have a suitable grow out tank and was thinking about setting up an emersed setup.
