Ok I'm considering doing a discus tank with my 180g. I want to do pool filter sand as my substrate I don't want to go all crazy with plants and need co2 machines I just want extremely easy plants that can survive with the water quality and temp for discus. I've heard anubias is a good start. All suggestions would be appreciated

Yes it can, you will just need to put some ferts in the sand. Anubias does best tied to rocks or DW, so it really won't matter anyways.
