Is it because of your stocking level or do you have nitrates in your source water?

The best long term solution is to heavily plant the tank.

I too have an issue with high nitrates.... its is sometimes over 10 coming straight from the tap... So I tend to do a lot of water changing myself.

That is why I am trying to get the plants going strong!

I'm probably about to be in the same boat. Up till now I've had to dose nitrates every day just to get them above zero. Just did a massive rescape and have a 5 gallon bucket full of driftwood and plants. Took about 80% of my plant mass out. Did that yesterday and my nitrates are already at about 3ppm this morning without having to dose anything.
