i order duckweed on aquabid. got the package today. the package SMELL SUPER BAD. open the package the smell is even worse. some of the duckweed was purple.

have anyone seen purple duckweed b4? some was all green on both side of the leaves. some r green on one side n purple on the other. some r all purple.

i almost puck, i was sick to my tummy so i threw all the duckweed into a bucket n left it outside. i can still taste the smell in my tummy as im writing his. the smell is worse than rotton fish that been left outside in the sun.

Well I am not an expert on plants... but that does not sound good. I don't think it should stink like that? Maybe do some reading around on it? I have heard that duckweed is very annoying and gets everywhere, but like I said I am not sure.

I have duck weed in my RCS tank and it turns purple. In my other tanks it stays green. I have no idea why it's different, but I know for sure it's healthy. It sounds like you could have gotten a bad batch, or it started as a good one and went to heck during shipping (which can happen due to weather, bad shipping procedures etc)

Depending on the temps, how long it was in transit and the packaging it could have gone to mush. I sent a RAOK to a member on another board of red root floater and dwarf water lettuce. RRF was fine but the DWL she said was basically soup. Just says to me that I'll have to put ice packs in for DWL because some things just can't stand the heat.

normally under higher light you can get it purple. some in my 120 the bottom is purple just not the tops.

Hmm ok, so it should have been fine for that period of time. I sent dkpate a bag full of duck weed a while back and she said it was in great condition.

Now you have to consider A) temperature (has it been very hot from where they are to where you are, it could have been baked in transit, or B) just a really crappy bunch.

Either way, it does suck, sorry to hear it.

I usually don't ship or order plants except in Spring and Fall just for that reason. (I don't have hot or cold packs)

Not sure where OP is located but for the past few weeks we've been in the high 90s. When I left work Friday, the sign at the bank said 102. That's hot enough to bake anything coming to my house.
Only advice I can offer to OP is to be more aware of the weather and how the seller will be packing the purchase.

i got the package SAT, will was thunder storm. so it wasnt as hot.
the person who send it to me was from taxes im pretty sure its hot there, not sure.
temper where i from is around 80-90 F.

ok so the smell is slowly dying away. now it smell like Dead POND water.
got me thinking, maybe he got these from a pond near by and sell it.
