Question for Dirt Pro's

I'm just a few days away from setting up my 5 gallon. It will be dirted using Miracle Grow Organic Choice Potting Mix with a sand cap.

Currently tossing ideas around in my head on finalized hard scape and I am curious. How much can I slope this substrate? As in how much of a sand cap is too much?

I've done a 3" hill with an inch of cap. I pay extra attention to it when I poke around for air pockets. Been around two months and everything planted there is pretty happy. I'll get an underneath pic of all the roots one day.

Yeah you might be better of building the dirt up instead of the sand to prevent anaerobic conditions
